adamant | 17th roar [ video + action for cianwood ]

Another one of those weekends.

[ Leon doesn't sound entirely unhappy, mostly just...tired. Resigned. Beside him is Skarmory, looking distracted, but certainly more chipper than her trainer. ]

Don't know how we got to Cianwood, but I decided it'd be best not to let it go to waste. The gym here uses Fighting-type pokémon, so Skarmory didn't have any trouble.

[ Skarmory chirrs, satisfied. Leon scratches her throat absently. He holds up the Storm Badge, watching it glint in the light before tucking it away. ]

She can Fly, now, which means she can carry people on her back. Or she's supposed to.

[ He remembers the last time all too clearly; he'd wound up in the Sprout Tower moat, along with Kay. Luckily, that hadn't been deep, but this was the ocean. And Leon can't swim, but he's not sure if he wants to just accounce it publicly. ]

Is there anyone in Cianwood who'd be willing to give Skarmory a test drive? Someone...smaller.

Hidden... machine? [Okay, so he hasn't exactly bothered reading the sections about TMs and HMs when he got the handbook before.] O...kay? What does that do, and how does it relate to people smaller than you and that guy?

[ First things first--he puts a hand on Skarmory's chest to stop her aggressive caw. ]

She's a she. Do you know what a Technical Machine is?

My bad. [Do not bite him please.] Er... I remember seeing the term, but I never really read that section.

[ He pulls out the HM for Fly, since he has it handy--it's like a CD. ]

TMs teach moves to your pokemon. You just need to smash it over their heads first so that it breaks.

[... Wait, what?] Smash it over--- Why would I need to do that?!

[ A shrug. You're asking him as if he knows, Ted. ] I'm just telling you how it works. A regular TM can only be used once, obviously.

So, wait... I need to break it over my pokémon's head for them to learn it? [wtf.] Isn't that breaking some kind of non-violence rule?

[ Another shrug. ] I've done it a few times, they didn't seem to mind. It doesn't need to split, just break.

[Hmm... He rubs his chin in thought at that, before sighing.] This is one of those things I just don't question about this place, isn't it?

[ A nod. ] A TM can only be used once. [ for reasons he hopes are obvious by now. ] But a Hidden Machine--

[ He takes HM Fly and snaps it in half. He takes the two pieces and holds them close, and, lo and behold--they come together again, as if they'd never been snapped in the first place. ]

Whoa! [There was a brief moment of surprise on his features at that, before he gives a wide grin at the sight.] That's pretty cool! I've never seen anything like that before.

Now you have. [ He puts it away. ] That one's from the gym here. It teaches a pokemon how to fly with a passenger.

So that's why you wanted someone smaller than you. [Okay, now he gets it.] You thought her how to fly with that thing.

[ Ding ding ding! We have a winner. ] That's right. She could fly on her own before, but now...

Why not try it out yourself though? I mean, if she's able to lift someone smaller than you, it wouldn't reflect on someone your size.

Because I'd rather she didn't have to strain on her first passenger flight.

[ That way, she can focus on important things, like how to balance properly and NOT send her passenger into the ocean! ]

Okay, that makes sense. [Aaand considering he's stuck in this place for a while (Having heard about the Safari Zone caught his interest.), he might as well try new things out.] I'm willing to help out, if you still need a volunteer.

[ He glances over at Skarmory, who flexes her wings a bit. ] If you want. Might be a bumpy ride.

[ You have been warned, kid. ]

After riding with Officer Jenny, I'm sure I'm pretty used to bumpy rides. [He may be traumatized about cars now though.]

[ Ted gets a slight laugh out of Leon at that. ]

Well, you're welcome to try. If that's... [ He turns to his pokemon, eyes questioning. Obediently, Skarmory lowers her head to him, nuzzling her beak affectionately against his arm before moving forward to stand next to Ted.

She folds her legs beneath her and lowers herself, inviting him to sit. ]

You're not going to bite me, are you? [He asks the Skarmory cautiously, just in case. After all, he's not exactly friends with birds, and even his only bird-like pokémon has bitten him hard enough to make his hand hurt until now.]

[ Skarmory chirps reassuringly over her shoulder, tucking her wings against her body.

Leon watches, impassive. ]

She won't.

[ ...unless he tells her to. ]

[He looks a little dubious at first but...

Well, whatever. It probably won't hurt to try it. Going to attempt climbing now.]
