The third just kind of...rolls there, making wet noises. And the fourth looks positively horrified, making distressed Scyther shrieks. Yes, even Green. Sorry, Zack! ]

Someone had better have a good explanation for this.

[ Every last muscle in his body freezes. He swallows thickly, looking down at her with a look that mixes wonder and fear. ]

[ After a moment, though, one arm winds tightly around her waist, the other wrapping around her shoulders. He hugs her, fiercely, as if crushing her will make her stay. ]

[She laughs a little and smacks his shoulder attempting to pull back a bit.]

You're gonna break me. Geeze, you meanie! [She'll never get rid of that pet name for him, no matter how many times anyone tries to tell her she should have grown out of it.]

[ He eases up, just enough to tuck his head into her hair. He'd forgotten her scent, all these years. His voice is barely above a whisper. Right then, he doesn't care about stupid nicknames or pokemon or anything, as long as he can keep her for a few minutes more. ]

Just--don't talk. [ He adds, as an afterthought: ] Please.

[She's caught entirely offguard. It's been a while since Squall's been this way, but she's not going to argue.

Instead she wraps her arms around him again and leans her head against his chest to listen to his heartbeat.]

[ He's not going to object to that. Instead, the hand that was firmly on her shoulder is going to gently stroke her hair. The hand on her back rises a bit, so that if he stays bery still, he can feel her pulse. He's not letting go anytime soon, Rinoa. ]

[Well this is nice.... for a little while. Squall's always so busy these days with Garden work that they don't get a lot of time to spend like this. Still...

She lets the moment continue a little bit longer before interrupting]

[ He knows, intellectually, that she's probably not his Rinoa, because of the obvious reasons, but that doesn't make saying this any easier. ]

Not Squall. It's Leon, now.

[ He gently pushes her away, makes her look at him, a decade older and definitely not a military commander. ]

[She does look at him closely. She's always looked at him closely. He complained about it once, telling her she could see into his soul. She felt that was still true here. This was not her Squall. Upon closer inspection he was indeed older not only in appearence, but in his eyes.]

[Unconsciously she takes a slight step back putting a bit more space between them.]

[She wants to ask what happened. If this is Squall in the future, what happened to make him look like that? But as usual she was scared to know.]

[ He wants to reach out to her, to take her hand or her arm, to keep her from stepping back. But he resists the urge, lets her take the time she needs. He crosses his arm over his chest, as if it could provide some kind of barrier against all the grief he can feel, threatening to bubble up all over again. ]

Don't suppose the name 'Radiant Garden' means anything to you?

[She shakes her head, offering up a small smile. The mood is growing quickly somber.]

Can't say "Radiant Garden" does. But Garden is a familiar name. I live at Balamb Garden currently.

[The last sentence is a bit hopeful, as if the name Balamb will spark sudden recognition.]
